My Story

Hi there!

You have absolutely no idea who I am. And why would you? Let me introduce myself. I'm Courtney, mom to Adaline and wife to Travis. I'm obsessed with being a mom, a homemaker, and living a healthy, low-tox life. I share a lot of my health and wellness journey here - and let me tell you, it's been a winding road.

I have been through every diet out there - Paleo, Zone, Low-Carb, Atkins, you name it. I went through that phase too, where I exercised more and ate less, thinking it would result in more weight loss. That backfired. I think like many women, my goal was to become as small as possible. I ran 10+ miles a day and thought water, protein bars, and nibbling on salads would result in a Victoria Secret model body. Woof, was I wrong.

Then, I discovered CrossFit in 2011. For the first time in my life being strong was celebrated. Taking up space was actually sexy. Women with thick thighs and broad shoulders were owning the stage, representing the sport, and influencing social norms. Being a rail-thin model then, wasn't the only attractive physique. My mind was blown and I wanted in. Rather than starve myself, I decided to celebrate my naturally short, strong, athletic frame (perfect for CrossFit), and focus solely on performance: getting stronger and faster.

I had to learn then - truly - how to eat to fuel my workouts. I had to learn how to balance my recovery, my hormones, optimize sleep and minimize stress. I was hacking my life in every way possible, from supplementation to hydration. Nutrition absolutely fascinated me. I took as many courses as I could, read every book, and schooled myself on every aspect that related to optimal human performance. Eventually, my peers started coming to me for advice after seeing my own success. Thus, my nutrition business was born.

I started coaching CrossFit in 2012 and it changed my life. Literally, it took me across the world. I've coached at affiliates from Atlanta to Kuwait, owned and operated my own affiliate in Connecticut for a time, before settling where I'm at now: happily married and excited to start a family of my own in the near future.

I'm certified through Precision Nutrition and Eat to Perform (Level 1 & 2). I've coached hundreds of men and women, all with varying goals, to crazy levels of success. Some people want to lose fat, some people want to get bigger, some people want to balance their hormones, and some people just want to learn how to meal prep and not eat out every day to save themselves some money. I love working with a variety of people - from CrossFitters to the non-exercisers!

I competed at CrossFit Regionals in 2014 as an individual, and on a team on 2017 and 2018 before hanging up my competitive hat to better focus on my true calling - coaching. I started Ferux Athlete. I was burnt out from competing, and tired of coaching my clients who were beating themselves into the ground in the gym thinking that would get them better results. I was tired, injured, my hormones were wrecked, and I wanted a style of training that FELT good, and also ensured I was healthy, happy and confident in my bathing suit.

My goal is to help as many people as I can. I have a massive passion for fitness and food, and I'm blessed to be able to share my knowledge and experience via this blog, my social media accounts, and with my athletes & clients.

As a new mom, I care even more about living a balanced lifestyle -- not being obsessed with time in the gym, or meticulously weighing every morsel of food. I'm finding that happy balance in this new postpartum period of my life - I share it all here. Food, fitness, motherhood. I share the good AND the gritty.

Thanks for being here!
